Patricia Velásquez
Creativity transcends images, canvas,
film and other media. It can also be the catalyst to philanthropy and charity
and activism. Patricia Velasquez, an award-winning model, actress, and
historian an ardent philanthropist, a fervent activist, and also an adoring
mother, brings an unwavering creative drive to everything she does whether it's
in blockbusters such as The Curse of La Llorona, or launching Wayuu Taya
Foundation, and taking part as a member of the UNESCO Board. She relies on her
intuition and creates her own path with great success, making significant
strides. She says, "I see my career as a long ladder." "I
completed every step. It was incredible to accomplish that, as there was a
long-term vigor. I wasn't able to stop moving. just kept my head down. This
analogy is reminiscent of an experience that was a formative one. Born in
Venezuela but growing up in France and Mexico She moved to Venezuela after a
handful of years. In South America, her parents were employed in the field of
education. They then moved their family to a cramped apartment with no water
and inoperable elevators. Patricia often carried buckets of water up 15 flights
of stairs in order to get water. She tried to assist her family as much as
possible, despite studying engineering as well as pursuing a dance education.
She was selected to model in Milan and her climb to the top of the fashion
ladder was contingent on a promise to her family and friends. She recalls,
"When they asked me to travel to Italy I told them that if I could send
thirty dollars a month back to Venezuela, it's worth it as it will cover the
entire building's water'." Patricia's achievement was a major moment in
fashion in that she gained attention for South America for first time. Her
"first model Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was an incredible
breakthrough. Her next step was to appear in fashion shows in front editorial
spreads and to be featured in ads for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and
Fendi. Her appearances on Oprah's Supermodel of the World contest as well as
Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World" contest was a huge hit all
over the world. She also appeared on the covers of Marie Claire, Bazaar and
Vogue.
